Leadership
2022 TTLA President Quentin Brogdon

I am humbled and honored to be TTLA’s President for 2022. You, the members of TTLA are the lawyers I respect most. You have more heart and more courage than any other lawyers I know. I thank you for putting your faith and your trust in me, and I promise to do my best not to let you down.
TTLA is the only bulwark against those who would close the courthouse doors and immunize wrongdoers against all accountability in Texas. Decades ago, TTLA members fought the fight to keep the courthouse doors open. Today, TTLA members now must fight the fight. And in years to come, TTLA members no doubt will have to fight the fight. We have no choice. If TTLA does not fight the fight, nobody will fight the fight.
TTLA is outgunned and outspent, but TTLA has assets the other side does not have. TTLA has right on its side. TTLA is an association of lawyers who care more about their clients than themselves. And TTLA is much more than an association. TTLA is a movement.
Like you, I belong to other legal associations. The mantra in those other legal associations is that the associations are stagnating because there is no path for younger, diverse members to become involved in the leadership of those associations. You need look no further than TTLA’s President-Elect, TTLA’s Vice-Presidents and TTLA’s Executive Committee for 2022 to see that TTLA does not have that problem. Nevertheless, TTLA must do an even better job of embracing, enabling, and empowering our diverse members, and I pledge to make that happen this year.
I have an important ask of you. Members are TTLA’s lifeblood. Do yourselves, TTLA, and your clients a favor: If a TTLA member asks: “What has TTLA done for me lately?” tell them. If a TTLA member asks: “Why should I stay in TTLA?” tell them. If somebody who isn’t a member of TTLA asks: “Why should I join TTLA?” tell them. And then reach out and mentor just one new TTLA member. Remember how good you felt when you joined a new church or another new association, and a current member reached out to you? Your most valuable resource is your time. Please give some of your time to at least one new TTLA member this year.
We should never take TTLA for granted. Close your eyes and imagine a world without TTLA. We would have no law practices as we know them. There would be no accountability for wrongdoers and no justice for our clients. And there would be immunity for everybody, for everything. Thank goodness, we do not have to live in that world. Thank goodness, our clients do not have to live in that world. Thank goodness, we have TTLA.
Let’s work together this year to keep TTLA strong and to ensure that TTLA continues to be the solid bulwark for justice and accountability that it has always been. Thank you again for putting your faith and your trust in me.
