State Bar of Texas: Hearings continue this week on proposed amendments to the disciplinary rules. Access here a schedule of public hearings the State Bar Board of Directors is holding to seek input on the proposed new Disciplinary Rules. Although the State Bar is publicizing these hearings, we want to stress the importance of all TTLA members taking some time to review the proposed rules and, if you have concerns, to attend one of the hearings and/or communicate your concerns to the State Bar Director(s) for your region. One of the great principles of a free Democratic society is that citizens can carry their grievances to a court of law and have it settled by a panel of jurors of their peers. In Texas juries generally consist of ordinary citizens who usually vote and volunteer to participate in one of the vital functions of a Democratic society; i.e., a jury trial. Read more.
TTLA is now accepting nominations for the 2010 Making a Difference Award which recognizes a client (past or present) of a TTLA member whose actions demonstrates the critical role of the civil justice system in protecting the rights of Texas families. Nominees should demonstrate a desire to promote the public good through the civil justice system and best exemplifies the attributes of a true advocate.
