New Law Lowering Costs for Electronic Medical Records Effective September 1

HB 4029, as finally passed during the regular legislative session, amended Sec. 241.154 of the Health & Safety Code, which relates to the cost of electronic medical records.

The new law, effective September 1st, states that if a hospital provides the requested medical records digitally or in other electronic format, and the individual requested the records in such a digital format, the cost is $75, plus the cost of shipping, rather than the per page cost as if the records had been provided in a hard copy format.
