Austin Hurricane Relief Efforts
In addition to our request for donations of office space and equipment, TTLA has partnered with the Austin Bar Association, AYLA and the Lawyers for Hunger Relief Committee in their efforts to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The Austin Bar has been able to secure a dollar-for-dollar matching pledge from Compass Bank for donations up to the amount of $275,000. All funds collected will be sent the Red Cross.
If you are planning to make a donation to the Red Cross, we'd like you to consider sending your contribution through the Austin Bar. The matching pledge from Compass bank will effectively double your donation, and we could conceivably send a total of more than half a million dollars to help the victims of Katrina!
Please make your check payable to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund (attn: Victims of Katrina), and mail to the address below. Once the contributions are tabulated, matching funds will be secured and the total will be forwarded to the Red Cross. All administrative costs will be deferred by the Austin Bar and AYLA.
Please mail your contribution to:
816 Congress Ave., Suite 700
Austin, TX 78701
Due to the urgency of the need, the Austin Bar Association requests that these donations be forwarded no later than September 12, 2005. They are also asking that you email this request to your staff, friends, and clients.
In addition, "Angel" donors (donor levels of $1,000/$500/$250) will be recognized at AYLA's upcoming Docket Call happy hour. Your firm or client, and their sponsorship donation, will be recognized on Thursday, September 15th at the AYLA Docket Call (beginning at 5:30 at
Scholz Garten). If your firm or company wishes to donate at such levels, please indicate this on your check. Donations may also be brought to the Docket Call and your firm/client name will be added to the Angel poster at that time.
Thanks, as always, for your generosity. For more information on this special donation program, please contact TTLA member Michelle Cheng at (512) 476-4346, or contact the Austin Bar at (512) 472-0279.
