TTLA LEGISLATIVE UPDATE WEBINAR April 23, 2021
The 87th Texas Legislature has begun! Please join TTLA President, Jim Perdue Jr., VP of Legislative Affairs, Laura Tamez, and TTLA Chief Officer of Public Affairs, James Fields, J.D., as they provide the latest updates. This Legislative Update Webinar will provide an opportunity for TTLA members to hear firsthand from TTLA leadership as they provide an update on the latest news of the Legislative Session and an in-depth briefing on legislation that could affect your practice. Members are also able to submit questions.
This webinar is eligible for up to 0.75 MCLE hours and is open to ALL TTLA MEMBERS at no charge.
Jim M. Perdue Jr. is a partner at Perdue & Kidd in Houston and is Board Certified in Medical Professional Liability by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys and Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Perdue attended the University of Texas and graduated summa cum laude. He then received his J.D. cum laude at the University of Houston Law Center and was named their Outstanding Alumnus of the Year in 2006. The Texas Trial Lawyers Association awarded him the Don Bowen Distinguished Service Award in 2018. He currently serves on the Rules Advisory Committee of the Texas Supreme Court, as an Adviser on ALI’s Restatement of the Law Third Torts: Concluding Provisions, and is President of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
Laura Tamez is a shareholder with the Herrera Law Firm, in San Antonio. Ms. Tamez is Past President of the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association. She serves on TTLA's Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Ms. Tamez is presently serving a second term as TTLA’s VP of Legislative Affairs. She attended Texas A&M University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and her J.D. at St. Mary’s University School of Law.
James Fields earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. His 12 years of work in the Texas Legislature included serving as Chief of Staff and General Counsel for two Senators (1 Democrat and 1 Republican) and two Senate committees. He also served as Executive Director of the Texas Health Policy Task Force created by Governor Ann Richards in 1991. Mr. Fields has been employed by the Texas Trial Lawyers Association since 1995 as Director and Senior Director of Public Affairs. In 2014, he was designated TTLA Chief Officer of Public Affairs.
